Discover Ribera del Duero

These are suggested itineraries. Vinophoria can customize any tour to accommodate your interests.

This tour can also depart from Valladolid.

This tour offers an unhurried exploration of Ribera del Duero with ample time to savor the wines, cuisine and culture of the region. You’ll visit three outstanding wineries, each with unique characteristics, which convey the history of Ribera del Duero and the transformation of its world-renowned wines.

Day One

Departure from Madrid at 10:00 a.m.

First, you’ll visit a traditional, family-run winery. The tour will take in each phase of the wine making process and include a delightful visit to its vineyards. You’ll enjoy a private wine tasting after the tour.

There are several superb options for lunch. Depending on the winery visited in the morning, you’ll either have a light, picoteo style lunch in the winery, or dine in a charming regional restaurant.

Following lunch, it’s on to an afternoon of culture. You’ll tour the impressive Peñafiel Castle, a XIV century castle which looks like an enormous stone ship anchored on the castilian plateau, and then peruse the modern wine museum located within the castle’s southern keep. You´ll wander through Peñafiel and stop for a coffee in the town´s unusual El Coso plaza.

After exploring Peñafiel, you’ll check in to your luxurious hotel. You’ll have a chance to relax and enjoy a glass of wine on your balcony overlooking the Duero or go for a quiet walk along the river.

Dinner will be on your own in the hotel’s excellent restaurant.

Day Two

Breakfast.

Check-out and departure from the hotel at 9:30 a.m.

Today you’ll visit two of Ribera del Duero’s top wineries. You’ll gain a more thorough appreciation of the different wines made in Ribera del Duero and the distinctive elaboration techniques of each winery. Each tour includes a private wine tasting.

Following the second winery tour, you’ll savor a leisurely, gourmet lunch in the winery’s stylish dining room. Your delicious, traditional castilian meal will be accompanied by wonderful wines.

Next, you’ll visit the lovely monastery of Santa María de Valbuena. Situated near the banks of the Duero river, this monastery was founded in the XII century and is one of the finest examples of Spanish Cistercian architecture.

On the way back to Madrid, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive through Ribera del Duero and its remarkable landscape.

Arrival back in Madrid at about 8:00 p.m.
