This tour is a celebration of Toro’s big red wines. You’ll visit three outstanding wineries, known for their exceptional wines, as well as a traditional cooperage.
This tour also explores the culture and history of the Toro region with visits to the medieval towns of Toro and Tordesillas.
Departure from Madrid at 9:30 a.m.
In the morning, you’ll visit a traditional cooperage where the craft of barrel making has been handed down through four generations. You’ll also see its small wine museum and a subterranean wine cellar typical of the region.
On the way to a winery in the heart of Toro, you’ll make a brief stop in the village of Castronuño to admire a breathtaking view of the Duero river. Next you’ll visit a beautiful, modern winery which produces highly praised wines. Here you´ll enjoy a wonderful lunch showcasing the regional cuisine, and an extended tour of the winery and its vineyards. A private wine tasting will follow the tour.
Then it’s just a short drive to the medieval town of Toro. After checking in to the hotel, an elegantly renovated XV century palace, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore Toro. You may stroll through the town´s old quarter and visit Toro’s delightful Romanesque Colegiata (collegiate church). You can also stop in at a small winery in the center of town that is said to have supplied Christopher Columbus with wine for his journey to the New World.
Dinner will be on your own in the hotel or at a restaurant in Toro.

Your journey through Toro continues with visits to two fantastic wineries. The first winery, dedicated to small production of first-rate wines will offer the opportunity to taste wines from both DO Toro and DO Rueda. Next, you’ll visit a family-run winery and meet its high-spirited proprietor who employs a truly unique approach to wine making. This will be an unforgettable experience! Here the wine tasting will be accompanied by delicious, artisanal cheeses from the region.
After a full morning of wine appreciation, you’ll dine in a charming restaurant in nearby village. You’ll enjoy a gourmet, castilian meal accompanied by terrific Toro wines.
Before returning to Madrid, you’ll visit the quaint town of Tordesillas. It was here that the Catholic Kings of Spain and Juan II of Portugal divided up the New World through the Treaty of Tordesillas. You’ll also take a guided tour of the remarkable Real Convento de Santa Clara, a Mudejar-style convent, filled with artistic treasures.
Arrival back in Madrid at around 8:00 p.m.
